Gamma Panel, adjust the brightness easily
Since my laptop (Toshiba Satellite M200) cannot adjust the brightness using fn-key. Therefore, I set the brightness using Intel display driver graphics properties. Adjust the colour at the “color correction”.
However, when I play some games, and when the games are set to full screen, the LCD colour will be reset to the default colour. This is the problem. That means I need to right-click at the desktop to choose “Graphics Properties…” to adjust the brightness each time I play the game.
Chinese input method editor (IME) for Windows XP
Windows XP is very good, because if you install with the East Asian Language, then you are able to type chinese with built-in IME (Input Method Editor).
And recently, introduced by my brother, Sogou Pinyin Input 搜狗拼音輸入法. Then I found that, there are other IMEs which are much better than XP built-in IME. And I also tried Goolge Pinyin Input 谷歌拼音輸入法, which is also very famous as Sogou Pinyin Input. If you like, you can try some other IMEs from here (very good, all are freeware).
Sin Chew Daily 星洲日報
I like to read the news using feed. That is why I use Sage and FeedReader. Sage is the addon of Firefox. I prefer FeedReader. Because it can be installed as a portable version. Then I can subscribe RSS to the FeedReader.
Sin Chew Daily is one of my favourite, because it is chinese newspaper of Malaysia. And just found that, it provides RSS. Previously, it does not, so I need to browse the website. Now, it is easy to read the news through FeedReader.
MediaPlayerConnectivity and VLC
Previously, I installed K-Lite Mega Codec and used MediaPlayerConnectivity add-on for Firefox. But the Media Player of K-Lite Mega Codec could not connect most mp3 and wma files especially in chinese websites.
Now I tried VLC. And using VLC, it solves the problem of MediaPlayerConnectivity. That means, MediaPlayerConnectivity works well with VLC.
So, now I click the “play” button of MediaPlayerConnectivity, it will pop up VLC and play the audio streaming file. Nice.
Linux review
[This is also an article from the previous blog.]
After a while dealing with Linux. I have learnt many things.
There are too many distributions of Linux. It is hard to choose. I have tried LiveCD. It is nice to use LiveCD. Because, if you got the pendrive or external harddisk and the computer BIOS is able to detect USB, then you are able to boot in the pendrive or external harddisk LiveCD through BIOS. However, the pre-requisite of the pendrive or external harddisk is that, the file system need to be FAT. This is because a program syslinux is only able to modify the boot sector in FAT, ext2/3, but not NTFS.
Free download managers review
Recently, I just found that, don’t know why, Orbit Downloader cannot resume the downloaded file. Therefore, I need to search for alternative download manager.
I need several downloaders. This is because, for the downloader, the files need to be queued in the download manager. This is not convenient for me to download a sequence of images, while need to download other stuffs.
So, again, Free Download Manager, which is very useful for batch downloading. Besides that, you can adjust the protocol, such as change the user agent to IE5, Netcape, Opera and else. Changing user agent will let the server identify it as the web browser browsing the page. Furthermore, you can also specify the referrer, because some website will detect the referrer so that there is no hotlink (steal the link). It is the most flexible download manager, and it is also portable.
IRC and ChatZilla
I never know that IRC is such powerful thing. I thought that, IRC is only for chatting, just like a chatroom. But I was wrong. Because, I just found that, if you found a correct IRC channel and server that you want, then you can chat and download shared files using CTCP (Client-to-client protocol). And even provide some information such as certain website, certain FTP with username and password, and else, which you cannot find through internet search engine (note: you cannot find them from search engine!!!).
Online comic tips
When you read online comic (or online manga), do you find that it is slow to load image when you click the next page? And do you feel incovenient to use your web browser to read comic, because image is small, and cannot scroll the page easily?
Why don’t you download the images and view with your “comic reader”?
To download the images, there are 2 problems.
First problem, which is solvable:
The webpage disallow you to right-click. Disable the right-click disallow you to see the image property, so that you cannot get the filename and the URL address. Filename and URL address are important for this tips. Therefore, your goal is to get the filename and URL address.
Memory Editor
I don’t know whether you know about Memory Editor (or some people call it Memory Scanner) or not. It is an application that usually used when playing PC games.
Using Memory Editor, you can modify your character HP (Hit Point), money, and else. And if you are very good in memory editing, you might also review the secret items, secret characters.
I like to use Memory Editor. Because, I don’t like to waste too much time to level up my character. I feel that doing this is wasting my life. However, I like story of the games, that is why I modify a bit which will not destroy the fun of the game play, such as modify the experience of the characters.
Video software
Reply to hobbestheteddybearkiller:
What functions you need? Play video, edit video, convert video?
To play the video, the best one I like is K-Lite Mega Codec. It can play rmvb, dvd, vcd, mkv, ogm, flv, and other common media files. Also play the audio files. I think, it is the best of the best. However, if you are using it to play QuickTime .mov file, there may got some problems. Because I tried using to play the .mov file which is recorded by the digicam, it had no sound.
